by davidbrown on 16 October, 2013

Following the announcement by Yellow Buses of the withdrawal of the 4d and 27 services from Merley and Bearwood on 3rd November, I have been working with Annette Brooke MP and we have now finalised arrangements for two public meetings as below.

All residents of Merley and Bearwood are invited to attend. We have picked meeting times which will fit in with bus timetables if you wish to use the bus to come to a meeting.

Annette Brooke MP Special Bus Surgery with Ward Councillors.

These meetings will include Ward Councillors, and we have invited representatives from Yellow Buses, more / Wilts & Dorset / Damory and Borough of Poole.

We plan to update you on any positive progress which has been made to address the problems caused by this announcement, and to listen to residents to help us find solutions.

Our draft agenda for each meeting is as follows:

1. INTRODUCTIONS AND BACKGROUND (30 MINUTES)
Annette Brooke MP introduction
Council representative explains Council position
Bus Company representatives explain decisions and position
Councillors and MP summarise situation and actions taken

2. PUBLIC OPEN FORUM for questions, views and suggestions (1 HOUR)

3. SUMMING UP AND ACTION POINTS (30 MINUTES)

We are also raising a petition on this subject and will be delivering newsletters across Merley, Canford Magna and Bearwood. Alternatively you will be able to sign the petition at each of these meetings.

We hope you will be able to join us at one of these meetings to share your views and suggestions.

Albeit a bit late to the party…

I wish to say I massive thank you to the work that both you and Annette Brooke MP have put in to this issue. I hope to see an amicable conclusion to this problem in the coming weeks/months. Sadly I cannot attend the surgery(s) due to work, but hope they are successful. Can I request a summary of what was said be posted either here or on Annette’s website?

    Kind Regards

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I will certainly post a summary of the meetings here and continue to update as we get more news.
We have already had some progress as Poole Council have just awarded a contract to Damory to run a school bus morning and afternoon from Bearwood to Merley on to Wimborne from Allenbourne Middle School or QE, partly replacing a bit of the 4d service and helping a significant number of chikdren to get to school.
Furthermore, following our representations, Poole Council have worked with Damory to introduce a Saturday no.11 service from Beaewood to Poole after the 27 stops.
I’m hopeful we can work with Damory/ Wilts and Dorset to make more changes tonfill in some gaps.
